About the Navy League
United States Navy
We established our Navy in 1775. Its service to our Nation predates our Declaration Of Independence. We have 328,194 personnel on active duty and 101,199 in the Navy Reserve serve our Nation.
United States Marine Corps
Two battalions of Continental Marines were formed in 1775. Currently 182,000 active duty and 38,900 reserve Marines serve our Nation.
United States Coast Guard
Created by Congress in 1790. It is the oldest continuous seagoing service of the United States. 42,000 active duty, 7,900 reservists, and 32,000 auxiliarists serve our Nation; Semper Paratus.
United States Flag Merchant Marine
The US flagged merchant fleet has 465 privately owned ships of 1,000 or more gross register tons. In World War II, Mariners died at a rate of 1 in 24, which was the highest rate of casualties of any service.
Your OKC Navy League
The Navy League has three missions: to enhance the morale of active-duty personnel and their families; to inform Congress and the American public on the importance of strong sea services; and to support youth through programs such as the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Junior ROTC and Young Marines that expose young people to the values of our sea services. In Oklahoma City we do this through supporting our adopted ship, the USS Oklahoma City (SSN-723), TACAMO at Tinker Air Force Base, NROTC, Jr. NROTC and the Patriot Division Sea Cadets. Additionally we support multiple memorial efforts and host the world's largest Navy Birthday Ball each fall.
